Missouri is one of the states that offers medical marijuana cards for patients that have qualifying medical marijuana conditions. Gallatin dispensary locations have been growing since the inception of the medical marijuana program, which was passed into law in November 2018. The state has approved a total of 192 dispensary licenses throughout the state, almost all of which are now open for business and providing medical patients with a host of cannabis solutions for pain relief, nausea relief, nerve pain, seizures and spasms, and so much more.

In fact, Missouri’s language in the amendment is some of the most lenient in terms of defining what a “qualifying patient” actually is—in addition to the standard list of terminal, chronic, and non-treatable or incurable conditions, there’s a listing specifically for “any condition deemed by a physician to be best treated by medical marijuana to alleviate symptoms, side effects, or other elements of the condition.”

Partly, that language is there to let doctors have more leeway in determining exactly who is a qualifying patient and to open up the medical recommendation to more people without creating an exhaustive list of potential conditions and issues. What about the other reason it’s there? Because like most states, Missouri has little faith in the state’s ability to legalize recreational marijuana, even though it’s on the ballot for 2022. Therefore, they want to provide as many opportunities for people to access the medical program as possible.

Is Medical Marijuana Legal in Gallatin, MO?

As mentioned, medical marijuana was legalized in 2018 and continues to be available to residents of Gallatin, MO, and surrounding cities. Patients will need to visit a licensed provider to get a proper recommendation and then pay the registration fee for the card. Currently, that fee is about $25 per year. If patients don’t have medical records of their qualifying condition, they will need to get a diagnosis before they can be approved.

The original doctor’s appointment for the diagnosis (and any related “traditional” appointments) can be covered by insurance. However, nothing related to medical cannabis can be insured since it’s still illegal at the federal level. Patients should be prepared to pay any costs and fees out of pocket, as well as to pay for their purchases with their own money.

Currently, medical marijuana is legal for people with:

Gallatin medical marijuana cards can be issued to anyone with these conditions. As time goes on, additional conditions may be added, so be sure to check back if whatever you’re dealing with hasn’t yet made the list. It’s up to a physician’s discretion whether your medical condition qualifies and use of marijuana is a good idea for you.

Is Recreational Weed Legal in Gallatin, MO?

If you’d asked before 2022, the answer to this question would be no. However, when you ask, “Is weed legal in Missouri?” today, the answer is yes, even for recreational use. The choice for Missouri to legalize weed came about in November 2022. It passed by a 53-47 margin and made it legal for adults over 21 to possess and consume marijuana for recreational purposes in the state.

This means that it is no longer required to procure a medical marijuana card for a qualifying condition in order to consume marijuana in the state. The first Missouri legal weed was made available in February 2023, with a month’s revenue culminating in more than $100 million in revenue.

There are several parts of the initiative that created legal weed in Missouri for recreational use. Amendment 3 consisted of the following items when it passed:

  •   The ability for adults 21 or older to possess up to three ounces of marijuana
  •   Allowance for home cultivation of up to six nonflowering plants, six flowering plants, and six clones after paying an annual fee
  •   Potential for dispensaries licensed by the state to sell marijuana with a 6% sales tax
  •   Division of tax revenue to many sources, including funding the public defender system, providing substance abuse treatment, offering healthcare to veterans, and expunging nonviolent cannabis offenses
  •   Allowance for local governments to levy a sales tax of up to 3%

Due to the passage of Amendment 3, the new answer to the question, “Is recreational weed legal in Missouri?” is a resounding yes. The Missouri weed legalization of 2022 has come and dispensaries across the state are now providing marijuana to both medical and recreational customers.

Are Medical and Recreational Sales Legal at Gallatin Dispensaries?

Is rec weed legal in Missouri and available at dispensaries? At this time, both medical and recreational sales of marijuana are legal and performed at Gallatin dispensaries, and other locations throughout the state. Medical sales are legal and available to the millions of residents who are involved in the state’s medical marijuana program. Medical marijuana products are typically held to higher standards and made with certain conditions or needs in mind, producing a higher-quality product than what you can get on the street, or even in the recreational stores in states where rec use is legalized.

Medical patients may purchase up to four ounces of dried flower or 32 grams of concentrate or prepared cannabis products in a 30-day period. The state monitors dispensed amounts and the computer will tell dispensaries not to sell to someone when their allotment has been used for the current fill period. You can track this yourself online, too, which can help you ensure that you never end up at the dispensary without any purchases remaining.

At this point, individuals can visit dispensaries for all of their marijuana needs, whether they are based on a medical condition or not. The recent amendment has made marijuana more accessible to residents of the state, as well as visitors spending time in Missouri. You simply have to follow the rules about age and amount limits to avoid potential problems.

How to Find Licensed Legal Gallatin Dispensaries

There are plenty of ways that you can find local licensed dispensaries in Gallatin, thanks to the Internet. In addition to a simple Google search, you can use sites like Weedmaps, Bud.com, and others to get a list of local dispensaries. The state’s guide to medical marijuana is also a great resource to keep on hand.

You’ll want to focus on dispensaries that have the types of products that you want. Each dispensary is different. They will have some similar products or some of the same brands, but they will also have something a little different. For instance, our dispensary offers flower, edibles, pre-rolls, vapes, topicals, tinctures, and extracts. You can even search stores for specific products or strains to be sure that you get what you need. These include indica, sativa, and hybrid options.

If a dispensary is operating in the Gallatin area and it claims to be a licensed medical or recreational marijuana business, they will require you to provide your ID and/or medical card for entry to the retail counter to place an order for the cannabis that you wish to buy. Any “dispensary” that claims to be operating legally without requiring this identification is not what they claim to be.

The good news is that it is really difficult to fake a dispensary, so if you find a list of retailers in your area, they should all be reputable, qualified places to shop. If you’re concerned, do your own research to make sure you are safe when buying legal weed in Missouri.

The biggest thing to keep an eye on is to ensure that you’re not actually finding hemp shops and other retailers that sell CBD and other hemp products like Delta-8 THC, not actual marijuana harvested from traditional marijuana plants. As long as you pay attention to that, you’ll have no trouble getting what you need.
